On a hot California day in early July 1969 a local promoter put together a few local rock bands for a summer kick off jam session. I was asked to make up a graphic for tee shirts, signs and flyers for the event. A few weeks before I came up with the theme "Angels from Hell" a national news station had run a story about rock-n-roll and called it "Devils Music" and the corruption of our youth. This enraged most people from the Hippies to Vietnam Vets. I took a chance and played it up in my campaign to make it sound as though we were protesting for FREEDOM of speech. The campaign launched and the response was phenomenal. On the day of the event the park was packed with people and more kept coming the event had standing room only tickets left.

At this point in time I was glowing from my success and was receiving pats on the back from the promoter and his staff. I just sat down to enjoy the music when the ground began to rumble and then I heard some screaming in the direction of the parking lot. I stood up to see what was causing the commotion and there in the parking lot was hundreds of bikers and not just any bikers Hell's Angels the real ones.

It only took about an hour before the parking lot was empty and everything was on fire or destroyed. I was now being dragged away by my legs and had some how become the property of "Big Mike". As I looked back over my shoulder I saw the promoter on his knees blood dripping from his mouth as he yelled "I am gonna sue you!" it was at that moment an overwhelming sense of accomplishment came over me. Here I had brought together two totally different groups of people who needed something to do on a lazy Saturday with only a few words and a logo. The power of it was incredible sure some wanted only to enjoy music and others to create total anarchy but the promotion was a hugh success. Another job well done...
